Overview
Unwind in a peaceful woodland hideway at the Caparica Azores Ecolodge.
Don’t be misled by Caparica’s seclusion – this is the ideal spot from which to explore many of Terceira’s must-see locations – the popular north coast village of Biscoitos is five minutes away: home to one of the best natural swimming spots in the Azores. Inland, the volcanic caves at Gruta do Natal and Algar do Carvao are just ten minutes away, and a twenty-minute drive brings you into Terceira’s historic capital Angra de Heroismo.
Caparica’s main house is ideal for families, with a sociable open-plan kitchen/diner, two double bedrooms and a mezz with two singles. Next door is Carapica’s sleek breakfast building, with the shared outdoor pool, orchard and vegetable garden beyond. Hidden amongst the Japanese cedars are the ecolodges themselves – neat one-bedroom en-suite studios, with a balcony where you can relax and savour the scent of the wild aloe vera, the evergreen juniper and Terceira’s ancient laurisilva.
Respect for the island’s landscape was foremost in the minds of owners Guillaume and Sandra when they created the Caparica Azores Ecolodge – their aim is to contribute to the sustainable development of tourism in the Azores, whilst providing a window on the islands and their traditions. The couple are also passionate about promoting contemporary Azorean culture – Caparica’s walls display original pieces created by female artists from across the islands.
