Casa das Camelias

Casa das Camelias is a modern family house in the beautiful Sete Cidades caldera.

You could argue that the Azores has more than it’s fair share of remarkable natural wonders, and one of it’s most-celebrated, most-beautiful landscapes is the great crater at Sete Cidades. This magnificent volcanic caldera dominates the western end of Sao Miguel, and it’s instantly recognisable twin lakes are a must-see for any visitor to the islands. It’s also the perfect location for a family holiday in our three bedroom house at Casa das Camelias.

The casa has a light, contemporary-Azorean feel – bright white walls, locally-grown Japanese cedar floors and polished basalt tiles all help to draw in the natural light. There’s a comfortable living room in the centre of the house, leading to a well-equipped kitchen which in turn leads out into a spacious private garden. There are two bathrooms and three bedrooms in total: one double bedroom downstairs and two double rooms on the first floor.

It’s a short walk into the village of Sete Cidades itself, where you can pick-up supplies and sample traditional-style Azorean cuisine in the local restaurants. You can also hire kayaks, paddleboards and bikes from the nearby outdoor centre on the shores of Lagoa Azul. The casa includes private parking and we recommend including a hire car during your stay – to allow you to explore the capital Ponta Delgada, the central Lagoa do Fogo mountains, and the famous hot springs and volcanic pools of the Furnas valley.
