Overview
The charming Casa das Palmeiras now has a sister hotel: Casa do Pateo.
Much of Ponta Delgada’s most historic architecture dates back to the early 19th century: a boom-time for Sao Miguel’s farmers. These grand townhouses were commissioned by the island’s orchard magnates when the Azores was the main exporter of citrus fruit to the UK.
Sadly, those times have passed but it’s great to see more of these wonderful buildings restored to their former glory. The brothers João Pedro and Joaquim Amaral have previously demonstrated their appreciation of classic architecture with their restoration of Casa das Palmeiras.
Their approach is the same at Casa do Pateo: clean, elegant décor preserving the original building and allowing it’s architecture to shine. They’ve also brought the same excellent, friendly service and relaxing atmosphere from the old Casa to the new, and being directly in the heart of the Azorean capital you’ll have some of the islands’ best restaurants right on your doorstep.
