Casa do Pomar

Casa do Pomar is a modern, new-build house in the quiet outskirts of Santa Cruz.

Designed and built by husband and wife team Alvaro and Venessa Fonseca, Casa do Pomar is all on ground level – with a spacious and well-equipped kitchen/diner, and a comfortable living room which opens out onto the private garden and sun terrace running the full length of the building. There are two bedrooms which can be configured as doubles or twins, and a large shared bathroom (with a bathtub and shower). The bright-white walls, simple lines and beautifully engineered Japanese Cedar roofbeams all help give the property a light, airy feel.

If you’re a family with two young children, this is the ideal casa for a quiet, relaxing week and Alvaro and Venessa are great hosts. Graciosa itself is a peaceful, friendly island and Pompar is a great base from which to explore it’s excellent network of hiking trails, it’s equally-lovely swimming spots (including the thermal baths at Termas), and a visit to the magnificent Furna do Enxofre lava cave is a must. Including a hire car will give you the freedom to explore, and the option of popping into nearby Santa Cruz for shopping or dinner in the evenings.
