Casa Hintze Ribeiro

Casa Hintze Ribeiro is a beautifully designed, modern city hotel in the centre of the Azorean capital Ponta Delgada.

Although the decor is mostly-modern, Casa Hintze Ribeiro retains many of the original features from it’s townhouse origins. The interior design is courtesy of renowned Madeiran artist Nini Andrade Silva, whose gentle use of Portugal’s famous blue and white azulejos tiles helps to soften the imposing basalt stone walls and archways which root this building to the capital’s volcanic bedrock.

The Casa’s twenty-two rooms are divided into nine studios and thirteen suites. The terrace suites are particularly spacious – almost apartment-sized, with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a lounge/diner/kitchenette. Our favourites are at the rear of the Casa, with their private terraces overlooking the city’s orange-tiled rooftops. Location-wise, the Hintze is in the very centre of Ponta Delgada, with the Se Cathedral, the Portas do Mar marina, and the city’s best cafebars and restaurants just a short walk away.
