Overview
The Internacional Azores Boutique is a chic, contemporary hotel in the heart of Horta.
The Internacional is the latest of Horta’s grand buildings to receive a long-overdue makeover. The building itself was constructed in 1926 and served as the Azorean offices of the famous Compagnie Francaise de Navigation a Vapeur Cyprien Fabre – known as the Fabre Line for short. The Fabre’s fleet of trans-Atlantic steamers transported the great and the good of 1930s society between mainland Europe and Rhode Island, and the island of Faial was a popular stopover point on the two-week crossing.
The art deco origins of the building have been lovingly preserved and the reimagined spaces now have a light, unfussy timelessness. There are just four bedrooms in total: the VIP room (with a panoramic view of Horta’s marina), the Pico View room (overlooking the marina and across the channel to Pico), the Garden View room (with a view of the Jardim do Infante) and the cosy City View room. The décor also celebrates another 1930’s landmark for historic Horta – when trans-Atlantic flight became a reality and the town’s sheltered bay allowed trans-Atlantic seaplanes to land mid-crossing.
The ground floor is home to the popular Internacional Café, whose decorative geometric ceiling and Futurist artworks help create a welcoming, vintage-bistro atmosphere.
