O Zimbreiro

Tucked away on the far eastern tip of Pico, the charming O Zimbreiro is the dictionary definition of off-the-beaten-track.

Located on the outskirts of Piedade, Pico’s most easterly village, this truly out of the way B&B has a delightful home from home feel, thanks to the warm welcome of owners Jeremy and Hermance.

There are four double rooms and one single room, all with private bathrooms, and the bright décor and nautical themes reflect Jeremy’s love of the ocean. Sea views abound from both the house and the gardens, with the neighbouring island of Sao Jorge silhouetted across the channel. There’s also a fresh water outdoor pool, with a shaded terrace for alfresco breakfasts and evening drinks as the sun dips down behind the hills of Cabeco da Junca.

Breakfasts are a big highlight, with homemade yoghurts, jams, breads, and locally grown fruit – dinner is occasionally available to book in advance, and it’s a short taxi ride to the nearby Restaurante Ponta da Ilha which serves some of the best, seasonal fish on the island. Including a hire car is essential – allowing you to explore Pico’s rugged, volcanic landscapes at your leisure.
