Quinta Altamira

Quinta Altamira is situated in the picturesque fishing village of Caloura – one of the most idyllic locations on the sunny south coast of Sao Miguel.

Altamira’s purpose-built bungalows are nestled amidst sixteen acres of peaceful gardens, filled with flowering aloe, fruit orchards and Japanese cedar woodlands. It’s an ideal location for families and friends looking for a peaceful coastal retreat, with a choice of one, two and three bedroom bungalows – each with it’s open-plan living room and kitchen-diner. There’s also an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and a small shop where owner Sonke supplies locally-grown fruits and vegetables, home-made jams and fresh bread.

We’ll normally recommend including a hire car during your stay, and Caloura’s position on the south coast makes it an excellent location from which to explore the whole of Sao Miguel. The village itself is bookended by Baixa d’Areia beach in the west, and the Porto Caloura harbour in the east – home to Bar Caloura: one of the best fish restaurants on Sao Miguel.
