Overview
Experience your own private Furnas-in-miniature at Quinta da Mo.
With it’s dense forests teeming with aloe vera, hot sulphuric springs and luxurious volcanic swimming pools, a visit to the famous Furnas valley is an assault on the senses.
Secluded Quinta da Mo is conveniently close to the centre of Furnas, yet hidden enough to feel like you’re isolated in the tropics. This former watermill has been in owner Luisa’s family for generations, and the original mill buildings have been converted into a spacious three-bedroom house with a modern Azorean-feel. There are three en-suite bedrooms in all, a well-equipped kitchen/diner and a large river-side terrace.
Within the extensive grounds are the original watermills’ grain stores – now converted into three, contemporary one-bedroom apartments. The décor is clean and simple, with a kitchenette, double bed and en-suite bathroom, and large patio doors leading to a small private terrace – helping to blur the line between indoor and outdoor living.
The shared gardens are unlike any other property in the Azores: it’s an idyllic spot where the beautiful scents of Furnas are all pervading. The serenity is broken only by the flow of the Amerela river passing by, and the man-made waterfall which the Azorean brown trout have made their home.
