Solar de Lalem

Solar de Lalem is a charming, 18^th century manor house on the north coast of Sao Miguel.

This grand residence has been overlooking the peaceful village of Maia for over 170 years. You’ll see the year 1742 displayed over its decorative entrance – the oldest part of the house is its chapel, dedicated to Sao Sebastiao, which was completed in 1687. The grand gateway was added in 1742 and Solar de Lalem itself was completed in 1850.

There are ten bedrooms in total: six in the main house and four in the more modern Casa Jardim garden house. All the rooms are ensuite and are individually decorated – classic-Azorean antique furniture and cosy soft furnishings give the rooms a calm, homely feel.

The classical-feel continues throughout the shared guest spaces and breakfast room – outside, the sun terrace overlook a pristine garden and outdoor pool, with the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
