Overview
Each island of the Azores has it’s unique appeal, but only Sao Miguel has it all – volcanoes and crater lakes, rugged Atlantic coastlines, volcanic hot springs and a wealth of marine wildlife.
If you’re planning your first visit to the Azores, family-friendly Sao Miguel is the perfect destination this summer. Being the largest island, there’s a huge range of activities and excursions for anyone who loves being active – from kayaking and paddleboarding, to canyoning, coasteering, hiking and biking. The Azores are also one of the best whale watching destinations in the world, and you’ll head to sea with the best crew on Sao Miguel. There’s time to explore the famous hot springs at Furnas, the waterfalls at Ribeira dos Caldeiroes and the great crater at Sete Cidades.
For your accommodation, we have our three-bedroomed family cottage at Casa das Pedras in the peaceful south-coast village of Caloura. Or on the north coast, you might prefer the classic-Azorean décor of three-bedroomed Casa Lareira on the Menezes country estate. We’ll also include a hire car during your stay so you can explore the island at your leisure, giving you a nice balance between active days and time to enjoy the relaxing pace of Azorean life.
